Hello,
I’m about to order a TIAO Smart Network Sprinkler Controller unit and I wish to buy also an appropriate Rain Sensor to benefit from its full capabilities.
The question is…which rain sensor is the right one?
I read all the forum here but I wasn’t able to find a similar post (in case I missed it please beg my pardon).
From what I understand there are different types of rain sensors available to purchase:
Thank you for your time

From what I understand there are different types of rain sensors available to purchase:
- Based upon water accumulation: there is a small container with a floating device that triggers a NO/NC button based on the total volume of water collected.
- Based upon water evaporation: there are a various numbers of wood circular pieces mounted on a vertical spike, and laterally there is an adjustable switch. When water permeates wood causes its expansion, ultimately activating the switch. Then evaporation will do the opposite to “disengage” the sensor
- Based upon contact/conductivity measurement: there is a small plate which measures surface conductivity. As soon as a sufficient amount of water hits the surface the NO/NC circuit is activated. But it requires very little evaporation to disengage, so maybe not the best choice for sprinklers control
Thank you for your time
