I'm going to mod my xbox tomorrow and I got my kit ready to go (the solderless kit) now heres my problem, I did the LT switch on my last 9x soldered everything together and it was fine then plugged the molex in and the ground started smoking on the ck3, i didnt understand it...
Would anybody be interested in making a vid tutorial on doing this kit? Ive seen the videos but I'm nervous on doing the actual cuts, I think i may be messing the cuts up, would be nice to have everything explained pretty good in the vieo step by step, especially the V shape cut and what that is going to do, and a really close up shot of everything you did while cutting/repairing the trace... the tutorials aren't too bad but there kinda confusing the a newbie, and theres nobody around my area that does this stuff so im kinda on my own but ive done a benq and liteon7x i could def use some help fellas, don't wanna ruin another 9x.

i dont understand i did everything the tutorial send but when i try to do a intro read it only gives me a 0x51 and it wont go to x72?

Keep recutting the traces until the drive is not able to show up in the computer during boot-up, unless you use the pogo pins to power up the drive.
To get Status 0x72, the GND and Positive points on the drive needs to be cut properly. You are successful when the drive doesn't show up during power-on-self-test bootup or in the CMOS/BIOS. The drive should only be recognizable when the pogo pins are inserted.
Then make sure you connect the alligator clips, including the pogo pin wires along with a 20ohm resistor as stated by the tutorial. The silver part of the pogo pin should touch the GND/Positive points on the drive. Make sure you touch them properly with your hands.

yea the drive is showing up in jungleflasher without the pins.. instead of making a V cut I isolated it like this

I made two cuts on both sides of the pad then I did the cut by B, i didn't trust cutting by the pad.

if you did 2 cuts, then you need to join the left and right side with a wire buy leave the pad/via alone.

what do you mean?
I did my cut at the bottom where point "b" was, but I didn't feel safe doing the V cut so I just did the two cuts by the pads, and I put the 3.3v in the B pad and the Grnd in the A pad using the pogo pins and it is not coming up in jungleflasher or dosflash, i've also tried all the resistors, none of them are working... i checked my cuts also with a multi meter and everything seems good.

That's what mine looks like and I inserted the pogo pin (grnd) into the top and 3.3v at the bottom to the left of that cut as illisutrated, but its not working. Jungleflasher and dosflosh won't recognize the drive at all. and just yesterday before i modded it the drive was recognized in both programs, so it has something to do with my ground or 3.3 i think. my cuts are fine.
also i should of explained myself better, I didn't even get the key yet. I just modded then plugged it into my connectivity kit and did the pogo pins and it wont show up in either program. Dont know whats causing it.

the V cut will isolate the via off the 3.3v but keep the 3.3v line intact.
now you made 2 cuts, which mean either the left side trace or right side of the trace isn't getting 3.3.v
so you need to solder a wire to connect the left and right together so they are back to 3.3v but still keep the via off the 3.3v.

If you don't want to solder anything - you can just use you hands to hold it down, or ask someone to hold it for you using gloves. Not sure taping the wires down on the traces might work.
But make sure the CK3 is turned on and the SATA cables are plugged in. You should not see the drive during bootup or in the BIOS if the cuts were done. You would need to keep holding the red pogo pin onto the positive point on the drive, which will allow the computer to recognize it after a restart. Since you said using the pogo pins didn't power up the drive (I hope the pogo pin cables are making a connection - go and test them on some battery/breadboard setup), it means that the pad isn't getting any power from the pogo pin.
After you refixed the traces, make sure everything (CK3 + pogo pin cables) are connected up properly and turned on, then simply use your hands to hold the red pogo pin jumper directly into the positive point (the silver part of the needle). Should be recognizable now...
