Hi, I purchased a TUMPA last month and while I was testing the device under GNU/linux everything looked OK:

Now I am trying to read the same SPI flash chip and it is failing (wrong chip ID gets read): same version of flashrom, same cables, same PC (same linux kernel, same libftdi version).
I also tried on another PC and it does not work there either.
Any idea about how to verify if it is really the TUMPA?
The failure happens with either of the SPI connectors.
I also tried using the JTAG connector pins with the same result.
If this can be useful TTL communication seems to be working fine when I connect the TTL-COM port to a router I have, at least on the Rx side as I cannot test Tx with this router.

P.S. Could you make available the FT_PROG template for the TUMPA somewhere? Maybe with a "REPLACEME" placeholder for the actual serial number.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply.
I did some more investigation, I can still flash the chip with flashrom under some conditions:

Use SPI1 connector
Set the divisor to 4 or greater in the fs2232_spi driver of flashrom, that means 15Mhz or less
Connect the #WP and #HOLD pins to VCC. This was not necessary in my older tests wit the same chip

The TUMPA does not work anymore with divisor=2 (30Mhz) which is the default in flashrom, but it used to work with it before.
Operation on SPI2 connector does not seem to be working either.
Do these symptoms describe any problem known to you? Can it really be the buffer? Is the buffer chip involved with the SPI connectors? Any more tests I can do?
FYI I tested with either the original EEPROM or with a clean one (BTW what about making the template available modulo the serial number?).
I liked the TUMPA but I am now in a situation where I don't trust it (this particular unit) 100% anymore. And not trusting the tools is a bit stressful, you know
