Problems with usb extractor

I bought the connectivity kit and usb extractor. I tried for hours. I have tried recycling the drive. Leaving the tray in every possible position. I even used different usb ports and changed it to com 3. I downloaded the driver and get a message saying that my device is ready to use. I have power cycled my pc. But nothing works. I just get the Bad Serial Data error.
The only thing I can think of is that usb device is defective. It was slightly bent when I bought it. I have read that usb probes are less reliable than serial connections. I bought this because I can't solder. Now I have no way to dump the key. I am very frustrated now.

Hi, first of all, did you see the COM port in your device manager? (you can open device manager, expand to the serial ports, and then plug the USB probe to your usb port and see if the device manage window refreshes itself. If it does, then open the black shell, check if one wire is soldered to RX pad, if it does, then it is working fine.
Also, what is your liteon version?

I plugged in the usb. And the device manager shows Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (Port5). I took the black shell apart. There is a blue wire soldered to an RXD pad and a brown wire that is connected to nothing. The blue wire looks a slightly frazzled. But I can't tell if it's the wire or the insulation.
My drive is a DG-16D2S with firmware 74850c

I'm in the same boat as splatt.
But for me, it work once and then, it never worked again.
I've tried different os:
-Vist 32bit and Win 7 32bit
The USB seems fine, windows is detecting it. Displaying the right port in Device Manager and matching in Jungle Flasher. Lastest PL2303 driver is installed.
It's weird. Every other drive are working but not when I have to use this USB Probe (74850C).
If anyone or tech support can help us on this. Please this will be appreciated.

Hi, for the key extractor, only RX is connected to the probe. The brown wire should not be connected to anything.

Can you do a loopback test?

You need to hold your pogo pin on the TX pin on the PCB to run the test.
