I feel like I am missing something somewhere. I got my CK3 kit combo in today and tried it twice causing two dead drive. I have always been using my Xbox 360 to power my drives with no problems. I figured this little kit would make it easier though. I am using a Windows 7 machine.
Experience 1: Xbox 360 Elite with a Hitachi v79 DVD drive. I plug the power adapter into an open power cord not on the same strand as the HDD. My CD Drives are all unplugged so it is just the xbox dvd drive and HDD drawing power other than the mobo of course. I made sure the power cable was plugged in properly. Switch on and powers up fine. I make sure the mode button is selected because I am using Jungleflasher (the tutorial here says to use jungle flashers mode b) and it shows a green led. When I try to unlock 79 everything freezes and drive goes dead. Now it will not power on whether it is powered by the adapter or xbox. This wouldn't bother me but I never had a chance to retrieve the key.
Experience 2: Regular Non HDMI Xbox with LiteOn 74850. I follow the tutorial and get passed reading the key, inquiry, dummy etc etc files. Sweet! At least I have the key and inquiry files. Now when I go to erase the drive, it tells me to power cycle the drive. I do this and then nothing happens. Drive does not spin back up and JungleFlasher returns an error. Now this drive is dead. Same as previous. BUT!, since I have the key and inquiry files, I am at least able to spoof an old VAD6038 drive and still have a working Xbox.
Any help? I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have never had a problem flashing drives before using this kit.

Diygadget CK3 devices have a "Mode" button that you must press and lock into place first before operation in JungleFlasher for Hitachi drives only. Remember to Use Win API.
When you experience freezing like this, just resend the unlock/mode/vendor intro device id commands for your Hitachi/LiteOn drive, so that you can write back fresh firmware to the drive after any unsuccessful erase/vendor mode or freezing issue. Make sure to use latest JungleFlasher and install latest VIA driivers above. Restart computer after...

Those VIA Drivers will not install. I can flash/reflash any of my other Xboxes with no problems when I am not using the CK3 kit. I am too affraid to use it on any other Xbox. I made sure to press the mode button when I originally flashed it. Green LED came on telling me it was safe, but then ran into the problem. I managed to use an Xbox as a power source and JungleFlasher recognizes it. I Send Mode B (Remember I am not using the CK3), but that is as far as I get. The drive still does not respond to open/close commands from JungleFlasher or the Xbox eject button. After a few tries, the computer freezes. Wonder if I should try a Slax cd for ModeB and use the DOS method.

You might have to unplug some drives (except for the OS drive) out of their SATA/IDE ports (not Molex power connector) to lessen the freezing issue. The freezing with CK3 kits should normally go away eventually after a couple of restarts/reboots, and then normal JungleFlasher commands should continue to work again without freezing.
I think DosFlash has freezing issues as well in certain cases...
There might be conflict going on with the CK3 kit and something on your motherboard. Inspect connections, redo them, etc. Or you could try a different method of powering up the CK3 kit instead of using the Molex.

Yeah, I really don't think the CK3 is causing the drive to die. I finally can get both drives recognized by Jungleflasher, but thats as far as it will go with noth. If this Hitachi wasn't a v79, I could try flashing it. Stupid unlock cd crap. I can't unlock the v79 until I can get it to respond to commands. Even manually ejecting and puching the tray in does nothing.
Could the firmware have been erased? I never got the v79 unlocked to even read the firmware, but is it possible to have been erased?
Edit: I tried with the LiteOn drive again. Lol, now Windows will not boot with the LiteOn powered on. This is getting wierd.

Update: Used DosFlash on the LiteOn and forced it to write. Worked great. Now the LiteOn is functional. The Hitachi is still dead though. I can't get it to respond so I can run the unlock cd

just to make sure everyone knows, using any phat hatachi drive with via 6421 sata card, the drive will be displayed on the left side only. even after mode b is sent IT WILL NOT APPEAR under drives on the right hand side. it will only show on right hand side if X360USB PRO is used.

Q: JungleFlasher cannot see my drive
A: There are multiple causes to this, so first of all ensure VIA Ports Only is unchecked and Non-IDE is checked under the DVDKey32 Tab.
If using RAID, it will cause issues. Set it to Native IDE / Disable AHCI (Intel) / Raid in your computers BIOS.
Use a Primary SATA port where possible.
If using a VIA card ensure you use the correct port

Q: I’ve set Mode-B but my drive won’t show in the drop down box.
A: If using Windows Vista, or Windows 7, please close JungleFlasher, scan in Device Manager and re-open JungleFlasher, if this doesn’t help, please leave your drive tray Ejected, and reboot your PC with drive still powered and in Mode-B. If the problem persists, please feel free to join the support channel and seek further assistance.
If you are using PortIO option in Hitachi tab – It’s not meant to!
I think jumping & blaming the ck3 right out is not fair. hitachi drives are very easy to mess up, if not done exactly. and once in this state they will not function at all. if you research about the hitachi flashing process you will find this:
The Hitachi GDR3120 tab is for Hitachi drives which are flashed differently from the MTK based drives mentioned above, therefore have their own dedicated tab. Hitachi’s are flashed as a “Live” drive, on a sector by sector basis and as such needs to be performed in a very controlled way so the process is heavily automated.
i've ruined hitachi drives in the beginning when i was new at it.
