Hi there, I received the 360 connectivity kit combo. Now after I install everything, I plug in the USB probe and it shows up as Unknown Device. Even with the Xtractor Reader it just says I have a connection problem.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver:

and still with same result and on different PC's. Could the USB probe be defective?
I am on XP and the driver is a lit-on 7 series.

Try any one of these tutorials to see if one of them works. None states that you should worry about having to install a driver incorrectly:

It might just be normal for it to show "Unknown device" and/or without a driver installed. Continue on and see what happens...
To test if it is defective or not. Use a multimeter, or check to make sure that you hear the typical USB dinging sound in Windows when you plug it in.

Ok I tried the tutorials, and I am still not getting any confirmation on the com port. And when I use xtractor and click on detect com it says that the usb connection not found defaulting to com1. And when I try to pull the key, a dialog box appears and says something along the lines of not being able to detect serial data. (Sorry I am on my phone at work right now) maybe I have some kind of confict with daemon tools, using a virtual drive. Any suggests of other conflicts I should check besides a multimeter which I will also try?

It won't work like that...
When you plug it in. Doesn't it show the name Found New Hardware ("Prolific PL2303 USB-to-Serial Comm Port" or "~~USB-Serial Controller~~") and ask you for the ser2pl.sys file? This must happen for the USB Key Extractor to work. Also, make sure to unplug it and then plug it back in. If necessary, restart the computer.
The driver it asks for is the same one you already have - http://www.tiaowiki.com/download//file.php?id=6 Make sure the installation wizard installs it successfully, which should most likely on Windows XP. The driver is also listed as well in Add or Remove Programs and in Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT). The name it gives to the USB Key Extractor is the same one that I have written above. Any other name will not allow the device to work. Make sure there is no yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.
If this doesn't happen when you hear no USB dinging sound or a "Found New Hardware" message, then it is defective. A multimeter is the only option. Conflicts don't matter.

I will check to see what it says when I get home but it dings and then shows a baloon saying that the device is unrecognized, even after installing the driver and rebooting. I also tried on another pc with same result. I then tried to update the driver manually, it will only allow an .inf file. I did not see one when I extracted the driver installer. I will have a multimeter tonite, what values should I be looking for on the meter when I test it?

Still same issue after starting from scratch. When I plug the probe in it say USB Device has malfunctioned and Windows can not recognize the device.

A screenshot will help for your specific problem so that I can try to see if I can the same thing as you.
All driver files are located here: C:\WINDOWS\Temp\PL-2303_loggedDrv
But first you need to check what Device Manager says about the name of the device and if there are any yellow exclamation mark under "Ports (COM & LPT)".
If there is an issue you should be getting it is:

"Cannot Install this Hardware: There was a problem during the installation of this hardware: "USB-Serial Controller". An error occurred during the installation of this device. The system cannot find the file specified.

Before I say it is defective, I have to know if the device can successfully install drivers in Device Manager. A Multimeter can test for continuity going from all 4 pins of the USB connectors and to the needle, by using the resistance/continuity tester (the horn-like symbol). Connect up your black/red cables to the COM port/VΩmA port. If it only beeps/buzz, then there is continuity. If it shows up any constantly changing value and doesn't beep, then there is still continuity. If the value is near to 0/1, then there is no continuity and is damaged (unless it beeps). Meke sure you are touching both A-B points properly using the red/black cables.

I have no exclamation marks in my device manager. Nor did I have any error or warning messages during installation or uninstallation of the drivers. On every attempt I got a successful install. I redownloaded the driver on ie and firefox on two different comps. and got the same result on both
I tested the probe on a multimeter by setting it to 200Ω then attached the red cable to the end of the probe, and the black cable to each one of the for pins coming from the back of the "actual" plug. The multimeter never moved from 1.
When I moved the black cable to the point where the cable is soldered to the board the multimeter then read .5.

Try to use the continuity test buzzer feature on your multimeter (horn symbol). Doesn't it beep when you test for continuity?
Test from the silver needle end (using the black/red cable) and to all 4 golden pins on the USB end (using the red/black cable). Each pin should cause the multimeter to beep.
Also, give a screenshot of this error message: "When I plug the probe in it say USB Device has malfunctioned and Windows can not recognize the device."

Ok So I've tested it using the multimeter again on both circled settings on the highlighted points with no response and I have also swapped from the both ports for the cables (com and VΩma) with same result(I looked for the "golden" points but could not find any on the probe)

I still receive this when plugging in the probe.

And this is what comes up in device manager. The com port was previously there tho I do not have a serial out on the back of the computer.

When I right click on the unknown device it states that no driver is installed and this is the the device instance id that it pulls up.

You can still test for continuity without opening the probe via the golden pins on the outside of the USB and to the needle's silver end. You are looking to hear beeps OR any constantly changing value above 0/1 (no beeps). Both cases means there is continuity. If it is because it was hard for your multimeter cables to touch, then simply do a similar thing while inside (look for where the golden pins connect and test each one from their end, and on the silver needle's end). I guess since your multimeter doesn't have a beeping feature, it might be a little too complicated. The manual might explain everything. Just look to see if when it touches something, a value changes. So from both circled red areas to the needle end...
It's easier to troubleshoot on Windows XP. I thought you were using XP. The drivers were then mixed up. This is the correct driver now - http://www.tiaowiki.com/download//file.php?id=14
I guess it might be defective. The chips that allows Windows to recognize the device might not be working inside the probe and needs to be replaced.

Yip that looks like it's poked. When windows says the device malfunctioned, more than likely its right. Try it on another computer before sending it back...

I am on XP I am just running a theme on the computer and testing I both tried on my own and with another person holding the end of the probe cable. It is a little awkward doing it alone. But I did try it on another computer and received the same result as on my computer.
EDIT: now if the probe is bad then what is my next step.

If when you plug the device into multiple Windows XP / Windows 7 / Vista computers and you can get the same error message even when the drivers are installed, then is indeed damaged.
