The Tiaowiki tutorial/guide for the LPT JTAG version still doesn't mention about diodes/resistor, until when you reach the SMC-JTAG steps. I would stick to the Tiaowiki guide, instead of other guides. What they mean is that you have to have a diode/resistor after reading the NAND (applies for LPT/USB-SPI), but not before (only USB-SPI).
When using Nandpro and you are about to read the NAND - a diode/resistor is not required. All Diygadget JTAG devices are made so that a diode is not required until the SMC-JTagging part of the tutorial.
Are you trying to flash a different 360? Ignore what other people/tutorials are saying and stick to these -

http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/How_to_JTAG_XBOX_360_Using_TIAO_USB_SPI_Interface You are supposed to start from scratch with these tutorials.
Remember you have to remove your SMC-JTAG connections (diodes/resistor shown below). It's going to be a hassle, but you have to do. Just remove the part of the circuit where it connects on the 360 motherboard.
Remove these connections below, a diode is not required for the Tiaowiki tutorial when reading the NAND, and will cause problems like "Could not detect flash controller". Once finished, follow the tutorial exactly here - http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/How_to_JTAG_XBOX_360_Using_TIAO_USB_SPI_Interface Remember to keep the 360 plugged into the surge protector/wall outlet, but don't turn it on.
