Hi. I cannot get the 360 usb spi to work. I have followed the guide correctly. I have tried it on 2 xbox's, both have successful reads via LPT, but when replacing and trying via USB, i get 'Could not find flash controller!" or similiar. I have tried it on 2 different computers, both running XP. I did not get any errors when flashing PICFLASH.HEX. Once the jumper was switched, I loaded the NANDPRO driver successfuly and it displays in devices as MEMORY ACCESS.
What else could be wrong?

Hi, check your wires, if you see Memory Access in your device manager, then the chip is good. Double check your connections.

I have checked. and checked again. I have made the connections with a RJ45 plug on the end. I unplug the USB and plug in the LPT and I get a good read. I plug in the USB and 'Cant find flash controller!'. If it says memory access in device manager, does that mean that the chip was programmed correctly? just wanna make sure. I might just unplug everything and re-do it from scratch.
It's just got me baffled.

OK. re-did everything and same. No flash controller! I did continuity test on wires with my m-meter and all ok. I tried it on a new box, first time opened and nothing. what else can I check????

I am going to have to assume all your connections are correct as stated in this tutorial - http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/How_to_JTAG_XBOX_360_Using_TIAO_USB_SPI_Interface Most likely they are, but you should try to download everything stated under "Software Needed" and "How do I know my XBOX 360 is hackable?". It also states you must have a Dashboard # of below 2.0.8000 to do the jtag hack.

Im not worried bout the jtag hack for now .. I just wanna read the nand, so it doesnt matter what dahsboard ver or cb I have.
I have tried with nandpro 2.0d and 2.0e ... just cannot get get it to read. No flash controller.
If the PICFLASH.hex didnt flash properly would I still get a 'MEMORY ACCESS' in device manager? just wanna make sure that it's working ok. Also, do I do anything with PicXboot.hex ?

Ok .. i've tried everything .. must be something to do with the usb spi .. i have checked my connections and re-connected with lpt and it reads ok ... when I plug in the usb .. no flash controller. I check the connections again with my multimeter and they're ok. continuity test ok. I switched it back to lpt and read nand twice no errors.
Im ready to throw it out the window!!!!!!! >

Make sure you download http://www.tiaowiki.com/download//file.php?id=29 and http://www.tiaowiki.com/download//file.php?id=28 You need some of these tools listed in the tutorial to read the nand as well.
The same factors that lead the LPT to work applies to the USB SPI as well. I think the software commands are different for the USB SPI - http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/How_to_JTAG_XBOX_360_Using_TIAO_USB_SPI_Interface

i re soldered and re soldered it looks clean and all points are intacti am using the usb spi made by taio from DIYGADGET.COM

i plug in the power to xbox dont turn it on then i plug in the usb cable from pc into the usb spi now all wires are just a little longer then my then my middle finger lol whitch is what i want to give to my 360 right jk the usb cable is as long as my arm maybe i should shorten usb cable although it detects it when not pluged into xbox it shows as memory access im going to try to take platic covers off the wires on the end that connects to the usb spi device and see if that works they are kinda loose and slide off easily maybe this is the problem anyone who has this usb spi can help that would be great i also have a xenon board hopefully someone has the same exact setup as me and can help im tearing my hair out lol also when it is plugged in to the pc if i do turn pwer on it works like i have done nothing to it is it true that it should not be able to turn on if it is pluged in to pc via usb spi like the guy above said does that really mean my points are not right? and does my pc have to be a old pc to work ive tryd 2 pc's already oh yeah and i also read something about taio tutorial being wrong something about switching pins 5 and 6 anyone know about this ? i have all the software can someone tell me how to get the usb spi device back to defualt so i can try from scratch i got no errors but maybe if i try again

ok.. got my friends box .. he had 7xxx dash on it ... I did everything exactly the same ... re-flashed the chip with PICFLASH.HEX ... swapped jumper to run mode ... memory access found after installing driver ... nandpro usb: -r16 read1.bin .. and ...
could not detect a flash controller!!!!
cannot for the life of me find out what the problem is ... I have connected it via LPT using same wires .. and it reads nand fine!!!!! Continuity test from front/back of both console and usb... fine!!!
I have wasted countless hours on this!!!! in the PICFLASH_v3b_plus2 file .. there is also a PicXBoot.hex file. Do I do anything with that ??????

If it is not a driver/software/hardware problem, it must be a connection problem on the USB SPI. I think the jumpers have to be put in a certain way, like how you do on a computer motherboard. I would have to assume anything mentioned/not mentioned in the Tiaowiki tutorial during the process is what you should do, with no added extras.
Make sure when you plug the USB SPI into the USB port, you here a dinging sound and pops up as a "Safely Remove Hardware" component. Windows must not freeze during the process. ~~Also, make sure you have 32-bit Windows XP. I don't think the drivers for the USB supports 64-bit Windows or Windows Vista/7.~~ Nevermind, looks like you have Windows XP.
Since the LPT version doesn't require extra stuff to install, it could be why it works on the first try.
Another thing, make sure the jumper is set to Normal mode or BoatLoader mode. Try swapping the jumpers before you read the NAND. If the one jumper position doesn't work, switch it to the other.

This is a new PIC (Microchip USB Package) driver for the Tiao USB SPI. I am assuming no one has gotten the USB SPI to work thus far. There are a lot of folders in this package. You will eventually get to some .sys /.dll /.inf files.
There is also the Legacy PIC driver v1.04 - http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2896 But this might be the same driver that Tiao is using. Tiaowiki seems to be suing v1.03 that supports only the older PIC designs. Download v2.6a instead as it is meant for the newer PIC designs.

ok... i've downloaded the package and installed ... I am still a little unclear what to use from these files ...
there is USB Device - MCHPUSB - Generic Driver Demo dir has the driver and program to program via bootloader mode ... do i still use the old PICFLASH.HEX or is there another one in these directories somewhere ....
also instead of using the nandpro libusb0.dll/sys do I use the one in USB Device - LibUSB - Generic Driver Demo directory ?

Update: I just noticed that the driver dates are newer for v2.6a. This might be your Tiaowiki USB SPI fix after all.

The driver dates for the older version that Tiaowiki provided are 2 years behind. There are no new PicFlash.hex files since it is modified for reading the NAND. You can ignore PicXBoot.hex - this bootloader code was already flashed into the USB SPI already during manufacturing. The PDFSUSB program should look the same as the Tiaowiki tutorial when you are about to flash the hex, meaning that it should detect the USB SPI device as PICDEM FS USB 0 (Boot). You only need to flash the PicFlash.hex file.

ok .. tried it again ...
uninstalled the old MCPUSB driver .. rebooted and reintalled the new one ....
flashed the hex file .. said successful
removed nandpro 2.0e dir and re-installed it ... copied over the nandpro_driver_w_32_x64.zip contents over and overwrote all files .. deleted custom.inf.
plugged in usb and asked to install driver .. pointed to 2.0e dir and driver installed ... device manager states memory access ...
plugged in power to 360 ... nandpro usb: -r16 nand1.bin ... and
Could not detect a flash controller!
checked wires .. continuity ok ... tried with LPT .. ok
so I checked the version of the new microchip USB driver (right click mchpusb.sys and click properties then version) and it states 1.0.0.6. Checked the version of the old driver (installed it on another computer) and SAME. Im thinking it's not an updated version. File sizes on both versions are identical aswell as all other files in the directory. Nevertheless, I think it's only so that windows xp is able to see the the usb_spi and to program it with PDFSUSB.exe, which both versions SEEM to do fine.
I interested in hearing any success stories with this device. Has anyone managed to make it work ? If not, what next ?

Also tried it last night, no luck, same Damn story, 'Cant Detect Flash Controller'.
If I was a noob (but in same breath not a professional) relating to electronics and xbox's I'd except its my own inexperience and move on but this is not the case. I think these adapters just DONT WORK.

I think it's very hard to make a circuit connection mistake during the manufacturing of a USB SPI device.
When it can't detect flash controller it means the boatloader is not flashed inside the USB SPI device. But I think it was already during the process of making the hardware. You can reflash PicXboot.hex if you want here, but it might not be necessary (it should have been already done for you). You should only flash PicFlash.hex - http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-152/how_to_build_a_usb_nand_reader_for_a_jtaged_xbox_360-840770/ ~~You need WinPic 800 first.~~ Can you guys see "PICDEM FS USB 0 (Boot)" in the Microchip flashing software?
About the PicFlash.hex, swap it with this hex instead - http://www.360usbspi.com/pub/360usbspi_800_v1.hex Right-click the link and download it manually. Click "Save Link As" and place on desktop. I think there is some incompatibility going on with the hex files and the USB SPI device.
Update: It seems Tiaowiki did put in a bootloader - "XBOX 360 USB SPI interface board with PIC 18F2455 loaded with bootloader" - http://www.diygadget.com/xbox-360-usb-spi-jtag-utility-bundle.html So it is probably the hex files. You are probably safe to ignore the PicXBoot.hex bootloader file.
