I bought the xbox 360 buffered lpt jtag kit and put everything together and soldered all the wires, but when I go to flash my NAND it says "could not detect a flash controller!" Also, when I plug power into my xbox the fans automatically turn on and the power brick's light turns green. Is it supposed to do that. I've resoldered the wires 3 times but it didn't help. Someone please help me. By the way, I have a windows xp pc, a opus motherboard, and a buffered lpt jtag utility bundle.

Check your trace and connections, when you plug your power, fan shouldn't run.

Wait, does it matter that I did my smc-jtag connections before I dumped my NAND? I've also just use a multimeter and all of the wires seem fine. I even touched one end to one of the metal parts of the mother board and the other end to the lpt jtag device and there was conectivity.

I took the smc-jtag connections out and the fans still turn on and it won't detect a flash controler.

Is your Xbox currently running a Dashboard version of 2.0.7371 or lower?
http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/How_to_JTAG_XBOX_360 - I would make sure your connections are not shorted and are in the right places on both the Jtag device and on the Xbox. Also if you don't solder the wires properly on the Xbox motherboard, it can be shorted out with other wires since solder is liquid and can flow and fuse together. Clean up any place on the Xbox motherboard that has solder on a wire shorted out with the others. Don't forgot to let it dry first.
Also, there might be updated software for the tools listed in the tutorial. I would stick to using the ones stated in the tutorial. Also, go into Device Manager and make sure all devices are listed and have drivers installed.
Double-click Ports (COM & LPT)
These drivers should be listed:
- Communications Port (COM1)
- Printer Port (LPT1)

Under Ports (COM & LPT) it only has ECP Printer Port (LPT1) not the Comunication (COM) port. Also, I have a link to the pictures in my one reply. Can you check that to see if I did anything wrong? In the mean time, I'll check out the xbox motherboard for excess solder. By the way, the dashboard is way under 7xxx. It still has the blades style dash. Thank you.

Your pictures are too blurry to see. Focus your camera onto the points, and fyi you can do connectivity tests from the back side of the motherboard, just have to look for the corresponding points.

ok, so i should take my motherboard out and flip it over to check the connectivity for the jtag. Ill try to get better pictures too. do you know why the fans turn on when i plug the power brick into the xbox? also, the jtag board receives power from the xbox because the red light turns on without power from the usb, so i think it's hooked up right.

I have no idea why your xbox would turn on, make sure nothing is pressing on the RF module. And I plug my jtag board's usb cable onto my pc and draw power from there, not from the xbox.

What's the rf module? And I plug my USB into my computer to power the jtag board, but without the USB plug even in the jtag board it still recieves power from jtag board's cable directly connecting to the xbox, the trace cables.

The RF board is the small circuit board with the ring of light and the power button.
If your Jtag board powers up even without the USB cable, I have zero idea what your setup is doing. Does your hands emit lightning?

They sure do, I'm the son of Zeus so I can do that sort of thing. Maybe it's just because the xbox turns on that the jtag's board turns on.

The jtag points do not put out a voltage, and the jtag board definitely isn't designed to draw power from there.

Well it did, it is not something I would lie about. Now I took all the trace cable of my xbox to see if the xbox would still turn on when I plugged the brick into it, so I cant take any pictures of it. "Pics or didnt happen," because you're going to tell me that I didn't see the jtag turn on from the jtag points and trace cables. I was actually there, not you.

You seem to be on Step 6 & 7 (Step 8 is not required yet). After completing them, download this guide about how to read the NAND successfully - http://www.tiaowiki.com/download//file.php?id=27 (Start from page 7-13, "Reading out the NAND"). Steps 6 & 7 tells exactly where all the wires should go.
Things like Xbox turning on by itself can happen if you don't carefully check your connections. It shouldn't be too hard, the tutorial explains which connections go to where. Make sure nothing inside your room is shorting the wires/JTAG board. Also, you have to make sure the wires are soldered onto the motherboard pads properly without it fusing together with other solder from other pads. Make sure all the jumpers are connected properly in the right places and in the right direction on the Jtag board itself. Soldered wires/jumpers can easily slip out so make sure you keep an eye on them.
You can grab a multimeter and test if continuity doesn't exist on your Xbox motherboard from one soldered pad (golden point) to another. It shouldn't beep, but may show a value. The only time it beeps is if you hold both black/red probes onto the same solder point. If you separate the probes onto different solder points, it shouldn't beep whatsoever. Once that is OK, check the connections going to your Jtag device/PC and from your Xbox.
