Introduction
In this tutorial, we will be examining a few things, Black-cat cable, modem, and the software. We will examine user to flash, and de-brick their modems. We will be using SB5100 in this tutorial but other models of cable modems are relatively the same with the exception of where the pins location on the board.
Tools needed:
Blackcat JTAG cable a cable model (SB5100, SB4200, SB5120) a hex screw driver. a computer with parallel port avaliable
Procedures
connect your cable to the modem
make sure the power is plugged into the modem
connect the other end of the cable to the computer
start the blackcat software
look at the screen and see if blackcat detected your modem. it would say broadcom ...
(backup memory dump)
go to memory tab. backup your full 2MB memory dump. this is to ensure that if you bricked it while flashing your firmware.
(flashing your modem with a new firmware) now go to the last tab, which is the firmware tab.
(flashing your modem with a new bootloader) this option is under the same tab as the firmware, its the first option on the top. most bootloaders are 32k in size
(restore memory dump) go to your memory tab, click write button, and load the file you backed up earlier back)
